JAIPUR: The Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag, has conferred on the noted Rajasthan-based Sanskrit scholar Kalanath Shastri the title of "Sanskrit Mahamahopadhyay" in recognition of his immense contributions to the literature of the ancient language.

The title was bestowed on Mr. Shastri and four others during an `Alankaar' ceremony marking the anniversary of the renowned Sanskrit litterateur, the late Prabhat Shastri, in Allahabad over the week-end. A large number of literary figures of Sanskrit and Hindi attended the function.

Justice Giridhar Malviya, great-grandson of Madan Mohan Malviya - who had established the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan - was among those present on the occasion.
