Publicity craze

THOUGH A star's visit to a hotel in Madurai in connection with a private function was kept as a closely guarded secret, there was a heavy rush to look at the celebrity and get his autograph.

There were also lensmen and presspersons to get a couple of quotes from him.

The hotel authorities were cordial enough to welcome all the guests.

But the shoddy treatment meted out to the waiting newspersons by the organisers irritated everyone.

They were pushed behind and never allowed to go near the celebrity.

After a lot of deliberation, the hotel authorities gave permission to have a short interview session with him.

The organisers arrogated to themselves a lot of importance. At the end of the programme, a couple of men came running to the journalists to include their names in the press notes.
