PSG-STEP wins award

TECHNOLOGY DAY this year was a happy one for everyone at PSG Science and Technology Entrepreneurial Park (PSG-STEP), because the organisation was chosen as the `Best Science and Technology Park' in India, for the year 2002.

On behalf of PSG-STEP, V. Raghavendra Prasad, Executive Director, PSG-STEP, received the award comprising of a shield and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, from the Vice President of India, Bhairon Singh Shekawat.

It was an award given by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi.

Among those who were present at the function at New Delhi, were the Union Minister of Science and Technology, Human Resource Development and Ocean Development, Murli Manohar Joshi, and the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Bachi Singh Rawat. Established in 1998, PSG-STEP has been active for the last four years, and is the youngest `Science and technology entrepreneurs park' to receive the award. It is an organisation instituted with the aim of becoming the `largest information technology incubator-cum-software park in India', attached to an educational institution. Since its inception, PSG-STEP has `incubated' 63 ventures in frontline areas of information technology, high-tech mechanical products and eco-friendly textile products. There is an impressive array of areas in which these `incubated ventures' operate. These include `Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits' (VLSI), embedded software, network management, convergent traffic analysis, knowledge management, electronic commerce, Internet and touch screen kiosk applications, corrosion management software and transportation. In addition, there are also ventures in banking, insurance and financial services, and `IT-enabled' services such as medical transcription, data conversion, geographical information systems, and computer aided design and computer aided management (CAD/CAM).

Entrepreneurs at PSG-STEP gain from the expertise and assistance of the students and staff of PSG College of Technology, and benefit from the resources of the many state-of-the-art `Centres of Excellence' on the college campus.
