On the road to International fame

AFTER THE blockbuster "Lagaan'', it is now the turn of "Devdas'' to try its luck at the Oscars. And like Aamir Khan's much talked about film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Devdas'' which had Shah Rukh Khan playing the memorable role of the character created by the noted Bengali writer, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, has already won rave reviews internationally.

In fact, "Devdas'' has not only run to packed houses in theatres across Britain the United States but was also entered in several international film festivals including Cannes. The "arty'' film with stunning choreography was appreciated nationally as well.

And just when India has decided to make ''Devdas'' the official entry into the Oscars in the foreign film category, here comes news that the inaugural Asian film award at the MTV Asia awards held recently in Singapore was presented to Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Oscar or no oscar, the international market for Indian films is certainly growing.
