LIFE

On a different pitch

THE FILM stars are at it again. It is not shooting for the movies but another favourite pastime of theirs -- playing cricket. In unfailing regularity, stars have been busy sweating it out either at the Gymkhana or at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, playing among themselves, at times with senior policemen and now with politicians.

At dusk on Wednesday, the lights came on as the legislators led by the Congress Chief Whip, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and the film stars led by the megastar Chiranjeevi, got ready for the battle on the green turf. The MLAs' team were heavyweights literally save for one or two while the heroes relatively looked fit -- age and regular cricket ensured that much.

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, came for the toss and greeted both the teams. Soon he was at the pitch tossing the ball to Chiranjeevi. He immediately left the venue for the Assembly.

The stars won the toss and chose to bat with Tarak and Srikanth opening the batting for their team while V. Radhakrishna was an opening bowler for the MLAs which was dominated by the Congressmen. From among the Opposition side, only E. Dayakar Rao, was seen moving around prominently and also designated as the vice-captain. The Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Theatre, TV and Film Development Corporation and comedian, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, took over the commentary.

Film personalities like Krishna, Mohan Babu, D. Rama Naidu, and many others were present to cheer. Actor Pawan Kalyan too made an appearance and chatted with his colleagues.

Well... ahem... `The man of the moment' as young hero Vishnuvardhan put it was Tarun. As soon as he walked in all cameras focused on him and his hero pals made an exaggerated show of affection towards him. As for the young man, he tried to be normal and if he was embarrassed by all the attention, he certainly hid it well. And, no one was talking about the morning drama at the Apollo Hospital.
