Not for charity

Sir, -- Financial viability is a key issue. It is very easy for the Government to lay down fee structures which are similar to those in Government-run colleges. But, the crux of the matter is that self-financing colleges are NOT in this business for charitable or social reasons. Their bottom-line is profit. The Government should treat these colleges in the same way as it treats other business enterprises. As regards the issue of social responsibility, why is that responsibility being placed only at the doorstep of the colleges alone? What about the social responsibility of the individuals who pass out of such institutions?
