No social commitment

Sir, -- When Dr. T.M.A. Pai founded the so-called donation colleges at Manipal, he was more concerned about the lack of opportunities for education in general and professional education in particular in south India. He believed that education is the best investment and persuaded parents to share the cost of their children's education. Donations collected and fees charged were reasonably linked to developmental costs and recurring expenditure. He wanted to provide quality education and his commitment was total. Today all types of players have entered the field. Professional education is now a profitable business. To check these sharks, the Government should act in a more responsible manner.
