More on genes

WORLD OVER, scientists are using information provided by the human genome project for further research and analysis. And genes, as we know, contribute to hereditary characteristics of an individual. Various relevant programmes are being conducted world over by various institutions and the scientific community.

For its part, the Karpagam College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore has organised `Genes and dreams', the second series of seminars from August 11. the seminar aims at helping students understand the project better.

The four-day seminar has been organised to mark the golden jubilee of the discovery of DNA double helix. According to the organisers, scientists and professors from Europe, Singapore and academicians and industrialists from New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore would participatein the seminar.

A series of lectures and talks would be the highlight of the seminar. The Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University, S. Sivasubramanian, would inaugurate the seminar.
