Mayor's day out

IT WAS the Mayor's day out on Wednesday. And certainly not one he would cherish. T. Krishna Reddy was in for a rude shock when he visited the Old City. Irate mob, led by the Majlis legislator, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, gheraoed him on polluted water supply.

The Mayor, however, did not lose his cool. Instead, he turned the tables on the MLA by wanting to know his party's contribution to the Old City. Later, Krishna Reddy did some loud thinking and said perhaps the recent appointment of the former Majlis legislator, Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Masqati, as the Urdu Academy chairman could be the reason behind the Majlis outburst.

Would he undertake a tour of the Old City again? "Why not,'' an unruffled Mayor shot back and added "such gimmicks don't frighten me.''
