Magic with logistics

Teamwork for success

Teamwork for success

INTER-COLLEGIATE EVENTS not only serve as a breather for students from their long hours of academic work but also pave way for a constructive interaction between one institution and the other. By participating in a variety of competitions, they are able to introspect on the aspects they lack and analyse the means to excel.

Avalon, the management association of Avinashilingam University, recently brought forth MBA students from institutions all over the city to take part in "Avant Grade 2003". The theme for the year was "Conjure with Logistics". There were three events - Paper Presentation (Connoisseur), Business Quiz (Brain Bytes) and Ad-zap (Bang `n' Boom) - for the participants to show their mettle.

The dean of business administration, Shantha.B.Kurup, elaborating the theme "logistics management", claimed that in the IT era of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), Customer Relations Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Total Quality Management (TQM), the concept of logistics management played a prominent role.

Inaugurating the programme, M.Chadramani, Vice-Chancellor, stated the need for understanding logistics management in educational institutions. The address of the management consultant, K.Anantharaman, was quite a novel one. On a lighter vein, he spoke on "logistics management among dabbawallahs and angadias".

The papers presented by the students included "Supply Chain Management" and "Logistics to E- Procurement and Outsourcing". Vishwanathan and Shankar of Bharathiar University bagged the first prize.

Brain Bytes had questions from various business fields. The winners of the event were Guna Sundari and Indu Rani from the PKR Arts College for Women, Gobichettipalayam.

Bang `n' Boom was split into two rounds. In the first round, the students had to pass an online test, which was designed using JavaScript.

The second phase of the event consisted of a real business case study on archives, given to the participating teams for a detailed campaign plan and presentation.

L.Bhuvaneshwari and team of the DJ Academy of Management won the first prize.
