Love is blind, they say

THERE IS nothing new about two individuals coming together to get married. But, the wedlock of this couple made news.

Neither the bridegroom nor the bride has seen the other because both of them are visually impaired.

The wedding ceremony was held at Muthupatti, thanks to the initiative taken by the Lions Club of Madurai North and Upaharmadurai.

P. Murugan of Kottar in Nagercoil, who had completed a diploma course in electronics from the National Institute for Visually Handicapped in Chennai, is working at Sakthi Masala Company in Erode. V. Baby, who has completed Standard XII at the Government Blind School in Tiruchi, also works there.

The couple was given a `thali,' sari, dhoti and other household utensils.

A sumptuous lunch was provided to 100 persons on the occasion.

The Lions Club of Madurai North president, M. Radha Rukmani, presided.

Upaharmadurai secretary, L. Shanmugam, conducted the ceremony.
