In all finesse

THE RECENT veena recital by Kalaimamani Gayatri at Seshasayee Paper and Boards Colony temple premises was scintillating and in sync with the extremely pleasant ambience. Organised by the Sesha Gana Sabha, the cultural wing of the Seshasayee Paper Mills, Pallipalayam, the concert began with a varnam (Ragamalika) followed by a couple of rare kritis in Chakravagam and Goutmalhar. Her deft finger movements left the audience spellbound. Entharo (Sriragam) and Sri Sathyanarayanam (Subha Panthuvarali) were followed by a couple of pieces in Aarabi and Reethikowla. Her alapana in Mohanam (Kapali) rendered at a leisurely pace with assiduous attention to gamakas was the highlight of the concert. Kumar on mridangam and Purushothaman on the kanjira provided excellent support.
