Idols to the fore

Mammoth idols of the elephant-headed God have been installed at several places in the capital in connection with Ganesh Chathurthi, which falls on Sunday.

The idols, depicting Ganesha in different postures, have come up at vantage points such as Kowdiar, Statue, Thampanoor and East fort.

It is for the first time that idols of Ganesha are being installed in the capital in an organised manner.

Over 1,110 idols, made from clay and pulp, are likely to be installed in the district this year.

The idols will be immersed at Shanghmughom on September 2 after an impressive procession through the arterial road.
