He is wild about wildlife

The leading characters in his films don't try to save the world. They're the ones that need saving. The man referred to here is Mike Birkhead, a maker of wildlife films. Dr. Birkhead, says the British Council, tries to "make a difference to the world he lives in'', and has done so for over 20 years by bringing "world-moving images from the wild''.

This producer/director is visiting Bangalore and Kochi between

October 14 and 17 as part of the British Council's "Ambassadors of Environment Programme".

On Tuesday, he speaks at the CSIC auditorium, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore at 6.30 p.m.

He has made many films for BBC, National Geographic, Discovery and Animal Planet and has formed his own film and television company called Mike Birkhead Associates which specialises in issues concerning the natural world and the Indian subcontinent, says a note from the British Council.

At Bangalore and Kochi, he will interact with a number of wildlife scientists, species experts and film makers.

He will also lecture on "wild films", the processes involved in producing them and "how the medium of films could be used to promote conservation''.
