Good Samaritan

Timing it right.

Timing it right.

IF HELPING others is a basic human quality, then help rendered to meet a crucial need at the right time is a noble gesture.

The financial help extended by `i-flex solutions limited', a Bangalore-based software company, to Balar Illam in Tirunagar, which is run by a non-governmental organisation, the Madurai Guild of Services, for meeting its water needs, could be cited as an example.

Balar Illam, which houses 98 destitute girl children in the four to 17 age group, runs a primary school on its campus. The school educates several children residing in nearby villages.

In recent years, both the Illam and the school have been facing an acute water scarcity. Water obtained from the borewell on the premises was insufficient to meet the daily demand.

At this juncture, the Good Samaritan came in the form of Ramasamy, a retired officer from the State Education Department, who associated himself with the activities of the Illam. Moved by the plight of the water-starved inmates, he decided to help by taking up the issue with his friends. In one such endeavour, his appeal to `i-flex solutions' clicked and the company offered to donate Rs.1,03,800 for sinking a borewell, set up a hand pump, a motor and other accessories. The donation was made under the company's programme called `i-flex for child'.

V. Shankar, Executive Vice President, `i-flex solutions limited', visited Balar Illam on October 10 and presented a demand draft for Rs.36, 400 as initial payment for the project to Rangasamy, one of the trustees.
