Golden dream

A STRONG will to achieve, coupled with determination and commitment, can overcome all barriers, including disability.

J. Ranjith Kumar (29) of Madurai did India proud again in the international sports arena. He bagged two silver medals in discus throw and javelin at the British Open Athletics 2003 (for the physically challenged) held at Birmingham, United Kingdom, this month. The educated- unemployed youth, with his paralysed legs, also made news in 2002 when he won a silver medal in discus throw at the Asian Wheelchair Games in South Korea.

Having managed to bag the second place among 30 participating countries, Mr. Ranjith hopes to strike gold at the Paralympic Games to be held in Athens next year. He was accorded a rousing reception on his arrival at the railway station here in the city on Saturday.
