SOME THINGS are guaranteed to make you feel good and a nice haircut is one of them. Schwarzkopf Professional caters to this requirement. The leading hair care company showcased "Essential Looks" for spring/summer 2003 for the first time in South India at St. Mark's Hotel.

"Indians should not be left behind in the hair trends scene. Our aim is to identify international trends and Indianise them to suit women here," said Arpana Gambhir, Technical Manager, Schwarzkopf Professional. Trend research from catwalk shows, Hollywood celebrities, and popular fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Vogue and Elle, went into deciding what the predicted look for 2003 would be.

The five haircuts featured were "Back To Black" with the use of the black and white combination to create a sleek look, "Feather" in minimalist style, "Nu Punk" recreating the Punk era, "Dream Icon" combining big hair and curls, and "Chelsea Girl" focussing on feathered length and a fringe.

Robert Seah, regional technical manager, Schwarzkopf Professional, conducted highly interactive, live demonstrations of the "Back To Black" and "Chelsea Girl" haircuts to train hairstyle professionals from salons such as Shahnaz, High Gloss, Queen's, Lakme, VLCC, Options, Shaman, and Spratt, who had gathered to witness this event. "The Indian industry is quite fashionable and willing to experiment with new styles. It doesn't take too long for a trend to catch on here," Robert said.

"It is not about changing the Indian woman's tastes. It is about giving her more options to choose from," he said.

Spratt Hair Studio was in charge of the make-up for models at the event.

"The new haircuts and colours are simply beautiful. It's going to be a pleasure trying them out," said Charu, official representative, Spratt.

One snip here and one snip there, and you are all set to show off your "look of the year".
