The Malayalam film industry is churning out a number of flicks for youth, getting inspired by the success of some of the recently released films in this genre.

Going by the latest reports, there are at least a dozen films getting ready for release in the coming days. And these include projects by leading directors and banners in the industry.

Lohithadas takes the lead, with work on his pet project `Chakram' taking off after several hurdles. Initially planned as a film to be directed by Kamal, `Chakram' got shelved following tussles within the production camp. Mohanlal and Dileep were the star cast in the first version. Prithviraj and Vijish of the `Nammal' fame take over the roles played by Lal and Dileep in the latest version directed by Lohithadas. Meera Jasmine gives company to Prithviraj in the film, which narrates a story on the life of lorry drivers.

Then comes director Ranjith with his `Hello'. The film has been in the news for quite some time with its producers organising a star hunt to select a host of newcomers for the film. In a novel exercise for the industry, acting skills of fresh faces were tested by a jury comprising actors and technicians. Work on the film is expected to begin soon.

Sibi Malayil also has plans to make a film involving youngsters. His penchant for campus-based stories was seen earlier in `Pranayavarnangal'. The director is also planning a film with Kunchako Boban in the lead.

V.K. Prakash, who made his mark in the industry with the award winning film `Punaradhivasam', returns with his latest `Mullavalliyum Thenmavum'. Kunchako Boban and Minu are in the lead roles. Indrajith plays a key role in the film. `Freaky Chakra' with Deepti Naval in the lead role was Prakash's last film. The music is by Ousepachan.

Jishnu, who hit silver screen with `Nammal', has three films in his kitty. He will be soon seen in Sanal's `Two Wheeler', Anil Babu's `Parayam' and Ansar Kalabhavan's `Valathottutirinju Nalamatheveedu'.

Kavya Madhavan is paired opposite Jishnu in `Two Wheeler' while Bhavana is the heroine in Anil Babu's `Parayam'. Produced by David Kachapally, `Parayam' has lyrics by Kaithapram and music by Mohan Sithara.

Jayasoorya, who played Ashtamoorthi in Kamal's `Swapnakoodu', has also received attention in film circles. He gives company to Jishnu in `Two Wheeler'. Rafi-Mecartin has signed him for their `Kachara Parties' to be made under the banner of Lal creations.

Art Director Nemom Pushparaj, who turns director with `Gowrishankarom', has roped in youngsters for his maiden venture. Kavya Madhavan and Munna play lead roles in the film. `Nirangal' directed by Benny P. Thomas has Nikhil and Ambili Devi playing lead roles.
