Film Awards

Usually it is the Film Critics' Association that announces first the awards for films every year. This time too, the Association lived up to it. And it has also been the experience over the past few years for the State film awards to be on the lines of those of the Critics' Association.

Among the awards announced here yesterday, the film `Nandanam' had the rare distinction of winning seven, including the P. R. S. Pillai Memorial gold medal for the best film for the year 2002. Renjith who directed `Nandanam' was selected the best director.

Navya Nair won the best actress award for her performance in this film as well as in `Kunhikkoonan'. Prithviraj has been adjudged the second best actor for his role in `Nandanam'. M. G. Sreekumar who rendered "Manasil mithuna mazha...'' in `Nandanam' and ''Nadavinodini...'' in `Aabharanacharthu' was selected to receive the award for the best playback singer.

The award for the best cinematographer went to Azhakappan, again for filming `Nandanam', which also fetched for Suresh Kollam, the honours for being the best art director.
