THE `HELPING HANDS' concept introduced in select outpatient (OP) blocks at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai has evoked a good response, encouraging hospital authorities to extend the services to other specialities.
The idea mooted by the Dean, James Pandian, involves nursing students drawn from three colleges, including the Madurai Medical College, to help patients reach different wards.
The patients, mostly from the southern districts, are finding the service helpful since it will be difficult for them to locate their destinations on the large campus without help.
Dr. James Pandian now plans to extend the `helping hands' service to the OP wards of all specialities in a phased manner.
