'Energy Meet'

THE INAUGURATION of an international meet on non-conventional energy sources here started in a truly non-conventional way.

The PSG College of Technology and the Solar Energy Society of India (SESI) had jointly organised the international conference and the Union Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources, M. Kannappan, inaugurated it by lighting the lamp.

But these were not traditional lamps and there was no oil or wick. It was a programme on renewable energy and the lamps were also solar photovoltaic. These were fixed in two rows on the dais and the Minister had to just switch on the battery that was charged by solar energy and the lights were on.
