Computers and police

CITY POLICEMEN are out on a new assignment for the past few days. Instead of wielding lathis, they are learning how to use computers and keyboards.

The National Service Scheme and the Department of Computer Science, SNR Sons College, is conducting a computer training for the city police on its premises. A total of 250 personnel from the 12 police stations in the city are learning the basics of computers in batches.

Each batch comprises 50 personnel and they are being taught Windows and Microsoft Office. The Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore city, Sanjay Arora, inaugurated the 15-day training programme.

R. Venkatesalu, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust presided. V. Sengodan, Principal of the college, S. Rajendran, Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) and K. Shanmugasamy, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) took part. During the inaugural function, certificates were given to those who completed the electronic equipment servicing course organised by the city police and the NSS unit.
