Chattisgarhi handicrafts

CHATTISGARH IS known for its handicrafts.

An entire stall was devoted at the annual IRDP Trade Fair, being held on the Manappattiparamba Grounds, to showcase handicrafts from the State. Artisans from Bastar and other parts of Chattisgarh displayed items made of bell metal, wrought iron, terracotta and cotton fabrics.

Visitors thronged the stall to buy, if not take a look at, the artifacts. Among the attractions were curios made of bell metal. `Bamboo singing rods', which were on display, resembled lathis used by policemen.

There were also paintings based on folk themes. The State is also famous for its folk jewellery. The stall had a few wall hangings and dolls that could be hung in cars.

The managing director of the Chattisgarh Tourism Corporation, A. Jayatilak, played a key role in showcasing Chattisgarh artifacts at the Onam stalls here.
