Channels line up special fare

TELEVISION CHANNELS are living it up this Deepavali, with special programmes and colourful fare to usher in the festival of lights.

Kairali channel starts the day with a special documentary on Devi temples. The special guest on the morning show `Subhadinam', will be the playback singer, K. S. Chitra.

The highlight of the day, however, is a special programme, titled `Devaragam', a recording of the programmes that had been organised earlier this month to celebrate the eminent music composer, Paravor G. Devarajan's Golden Jubilee year with Malayalam film songs. Many popular playback singers of yesteryear, including Jayachandran and Madhuri, will participate in the programme.

Kairali's movie for the day will be `Mazhavilkkavadi', starring Jayaram and Urvasi. A day with the musician Balamuralikrishna, in the programme, `Mohanamurali', will be another feature. One can also watch the international edition of Kairali's live music programme, `Sing `n' Win' on the day. The Deepavali special `Symphony' features L.R. Iswari, who will enthrall viewers by singing in various languages.

The programme, `Cheriya Sreeniyum Valiya Lokavum' will cross the 100-episode mark on Deepavali day.

Asianet too has a host of programmes to mark Deepavali. A special dance programme in connection with Deepavali will be followed by the morning show, `Suprabhatham', in which actor, Gopi, will be the chief guest.

A music concert by Jesudas, a festival-related music programme and a special programme on the celebrations in various parts of the country have been planned.

Meet the danseuse and movie actress, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, best remembered for her debut role with Mammootty in the Malayalam movie `Arayannangalude Veedu' and later with Jayaram in `Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal', in an interview to be telecast on Deepavali day. A special edition of the music programme, `Sangeetha sagaram', featuring G. Venugopal will also be telecast.

The chosen movies for the day on Asianet are `Thenmavinkombathu' and `Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal'. On Surya TV, `Thaara sallapam' features the actors, Vineeth kumar and Suchitha. The afternoon movie on the channel will be `Bharthavudyogam', starring Jagadish, Siddique and Athira. Actresses Laila and Manya appear in separate interviews and so does Kala, who has done the choreography for several Malayalam movies.
