Changing rules

SCENARISTS TURNING directors could be a trend that is catching on in the crisis-ridden Malayalam film industry of late.

Renji Panicker, who is known for creating many a hit screenplay and spit-fire dialogue, is now being flooded with offers to don the director's cap.

Recently, he had worn the producer's mantle with Joshi in `Praja' and managed to come out with his reputation unscathed. `Praja', as was the case with other films scripted by Panicker, had a hero taking villians, mainly politicians, to task, and arguing vehemently for the underdog.

When last heard, he was dilly-dallying on taking up the directorial offers as yet.
