Celebration time for civic clubs

HOW DOES a "civic club" sound? As the name suggests, such clubs are all about managing the environment and becoming more civic conscious.

A movement that involves the schoolchildren of our city, the civic clubs are an offshoot of the Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) of the city-based Public Affairs Centre and Swabhimana. Vrunda Bhaskar, coordinator, Team CMCA, says that it has grown from 14 clubs in 2000 to 52 in 2004. Now, it is celebration time for the clubs. Every year, they have an annual daylong event — "Inspiration 2004" will be held at St. Joseph's Indian High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 6.

Ms. Bhaskar says the event is unique in that it provides an opportunity for schools "to participate in fun-filled motivating contests which revolve around the theme of civic sense and environment consciousness." The contests will be in English and Kannada. For details, call Ms. Bhaskar on ph: 2552 5452/53.
