Celebrating Malayalam

As usual, we will be celebrating this day for our mother tongue. So we will have all our favourite authors coming down to discuss the plight of our language.

Organised by the Samastha Kerala Sahitya Parishad at the G. Auditorium here, the week-long celebrations will deal with all genres of creative writing. Starting from poetry to stories to plays and finally, media.

As expected, the festival will be inaugurated by Ayyappa Panicker, who could at last bring some sort of dignity to our awards in a strange way. The inaugural session will also feature lectures by Narendraprasad and K.P. Sankaran.

This will be followed by a flood of poetry, with almost all poets writing in Malayalam coming down to present their poems. Days to follow will witness stalwarts such as T. Padmanabhan, Sugathakumari, Vishnu Narayanan Namboodiri, Punathil Kunhabdulla, K.T. Mohammed, Sukumar Azhikode and Zacharia leading discussions.

At the other end of the city, the Changampuzha Cultural Centre will organise `aksharasloka sadas', `kavyanjali' by school students, `kaviyarangu' led by poets attending `kavyamoola' and more poems at `kavyalapanam'. The evening will conclude with a play, Cinderella, by children at the Soorya.
