Cashing in on VVIP visit

Rarely do VVIP's get the opportunity to inaugurate projects twice and that too on the same day. The Union Minister for Railways, Nitish Kumar, who reached Kerala from Bangalore after visiting an accident site, was called upon to inaugurate the work on the Kayamkulam-Cheppad-Harippad stretch at Cheppad and that of Kayamkulam-Mavelikara-Changannur stretch at Kayamkulam within a gap of one hour.

The functions were organised by the Railways reportedly at the behest of V. M. Sudheeran and Ramesh Chennithala, who represent the Alappuzha and Mavelikara Lok Sabha constituencies respectively. The grapevine has it that the two Congress leaders did not want to take any chances with elections to the Lok Sabha round the corner.
