Brawn again Vikram

'Pithamagan' gets launched on the AVM sets.

FOR HIS third movie, `Pithamagan', critically-acclaimed commercial director, Bala, has picked his original brawn-man, Vikram, and composer Ilaiyaraaja from his first film, `Sethu', and Surya and Laila from his second, `Nanda', and put them in the blender for what looks like a brawn-meets-crazed man mix of his first two projects.

They won't reveal the story line yet, but that's what it looks like going by the promos. Enroute to the film's launch pad at AVM Studios in Vadapalani on Friday were mini-posters that show the two heroes, unshaven, with Vikram flexing both arms and eyes and Surya trying hard to look menacing. That's when you realise that the unidentifiable man with a disturbed look, dipped in mud sauce on the film's invite is Vikram, looking madder than he did in Sethu. A bewildered Laila looks like she's just stepped out of `Nanda', and still wearing her natural, plain-Jane look.

"It's going to be another action film," a source said.

The launch was a sober affair, with a pooja and some glamour, and a thin sea of curious onlookers trying to attract the stars' attention. Coming in to cheer on the Pithamagan team were Parthiban, Vijay, Sneha, `Thalaivasal' Vijay, Vivek, Sibiraj, Cheran, Charan, Suresh Urs, Sivakumar, and a host of filmmakers.

A nice easy-paced affair topped with a pleasant breeze. But it won't be until summer that the film will hit the screens.

The shooting will begin in January on course for a May release.
