FOR BRITISH citizens and Non-Resident Indians, it was an opportunity to see what the God's Own Country has to offer. The 14-day Kerala Festival in London showcased the best of the palm-fringed State's culture, art, cuisine and tourist spots.

The festival was organised by the Kerala Group of Restaurants in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tourism India, Union Ministry of Tourism and Kerala Tourism.

The presentation of `panchavadyam' by a seven-member troupe from Kerala, `Modiyettu', Kalamezhuthu, Ashtapathi and Sopana Sangeetham, an exhibition of handicrafts, film shows and a photographic exhibition on tourist spots in the State were the main attractions.

While it was Congress leader, K. Muraleedharan, who inaugurated the fest at the Bharatiya Vidyabhavan at Kensington, superstar, Mammootty, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Actors Nedumedi Venu and Ravi Vallathol and Bollywood actress, Juhi Chawla, were among those who stepped in for the festival.

Mohiniyattom was presented by Thara Kalyan, Devi Ajith and Bindusree. The dance presentation of the poem `Amma', written by O. N. V. Kurup, and Vallathol's `Mathruvandanam' were staged by Thara Kalyan and troupe.
