Beauty pageant

The ten girls who made it into the finals of the HSBC Navy Queen pageant looked cheerful and energetic during a photo shoot held at the Naval Base on Thursday. Hailing from different corners of the country, they have already become friends.

Half of them are from Kerala itself. Vibha Valsalan, Ajisa Ali, Zonia Mohan, Aparna Menon and Priyanka Mathew all had local links. But it does not matter when it comes to beauty and intelligence. The others, Neethi Iyer, Elizabeth Howell, Subhra Sharma, Abhulasha Thakur and Shilpa Peravali, were zestfully at home learning the ramp tricks on the esplanade.

With great enthusiasm, all of them posed for the shutterbugs of the media as well as the event managers. For the Mumbai-based event manager, Events Unplugged, this is the first experience in Kochi.

A team of experts from Mumbai and Bangalore are engaged in grooming these finalists for the pageant to be held along with the Navy Ball at the SNC Officers Mess, Naval Base, on Saturday. Rehearsals and training in question-and-answer sessions are being conducted at different locations around the Naval Base. The final rehearsal will take place on Friday.

The pageant will have four rounds, including a designer wear round. Designer creations of Arun Bajaj and Oorja from Bangalore will be featured.

As usual, there are foreign trip offers for the winners, courtesy Kuwait Airways, Oman Air and SriLankan Airways. And to add colour, the celebrated MTV VJs, Cyrus Broacha and Shehnaz, will host the evening.
