At loggerheads

RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATIONS seem to have a troubled relation with the Corporation. For, their enthusiasm to improve city life received good response from all quarters, be it the city police or the Public Works Department, except the Corporation officials. When the Ernakulam District Residents' Associations Apex Council (EDRAAC) decided to hold a seminar on streamlining traffic in the city, they decided on a date that suited the Kochi Mayor. However, when changes in his official programme forced the latter to pull out of the programme, EDRAAC officials requested the Corporation to send some senior officials to represent the civic body. None turned up, though. The president of EDRAAC, S. Balakrishnan, seemed to be peeved about it, as the Additional District Magistrate and RTO sent substitutes to make up for their absence.
