Afghan take-over

AFGHANISTAN, THE war-torn nation, is invading India.

After the American apples and diary products from Australia, pomegranates are flooding the Indian fruit markets in a big way.Pomegranates of Afghanistan are known worldwide for their sweetness.

The fruit that is cultivated mostly in and around Kabul, the capital of the desert nation, is being regularly imported to India.

As the blood red-coloured fruits are conquering the Indian markets and taste buds, the looser is the Indian fruit industry.

The Indian pomegranates with the slight orange colour that used to reach the Kerala market from Bangalore is finding it difficult to maintain its market share. Though a bit highly priced than the Indian variety, the juicy and sweet foreign fruit is finding more takers in the markets of Kochi.
