A musical extravaganza

ON A verdant expanse of land, creativity holds sway. Dancers, painters, and craftspersons mingle and connect, and display their talent on this platform — where art is brought closer to the common man. Shankara Foundation (situated on Kanakapura Road) will celebrate its two years of existence on February 27.

The foundation, a non-profit trust, was founded by Rashme Hegde Gopi. The sylvan surroundings of Shankara are filled with traditional and modern sculptures, tribal murals and in the middle of it all is the Bhoomandala - the open air amphitheatre where dance, theatre, and music performances are hosted.

Shankara is organising a musical extravaganza on Friday. Tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Husain, and Kathak exponent, Pandit Birju Maharaj, will get together to enchant music and dance aficionados.

Food kiosks serving ethnic Indian cuisine will also be part of the event.

"Every year, we celebrate our anniversary through such performances," says Rashme. One of her pet projects at Shankara is Rangaguccha, where youngsters participate in workshops and interact with noted artistes.

Artitude, the event management unit of Shankara, is organising Friday's event.

Donor passes available at the venue, "Sreeshyla." For details, dial 22719512.
