A distinct drive

EVEN AS the incidence of AIDS is alarmingly on the increase, so is the awareness campaign. It is heartening to find every section of the society contributing its mite to spread a message of caution wide and around.

With the World AIDS Day just having passed, many organisations observed it in all concern. The Health Department in Erode arranged a programme in front of the Erode Government Headquarters Hospital.

Nursing students comprising mainly women conducted an awareness demonstration. These students formed the AIDS symbol and raised slogans, urging the people to lead a disciplined life.

Some HIV positive patients were provided with welfare measures. It was announced that an HIV test was conducted for Rs. 10 at the Government Headquarters Hospital.

The same day, on behalf of the Lions Club of Erode, a CD on AIDS awareness, produced by a local doctor was released. The Collector, K. Balachandran, released the CD, received by MLA, K.S. Thennarasu, and Joint Director of Health Services, Capt. G. Venkatachalam.
