“Khan’s damage incalculable”

Washington: Pakistan’s nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan was the world’s greatest proliferator, said U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday.

“With respect to A.Q. Khan, there’s no doubt he is probably the world’s greatest proliferator. The damage that he’s done around the world has been incalculable,” said Ms. Clinton .

Dr. Khan, who was slapped with U.S. sanctions along with those on his network, was released by a Pakistani court from years of house arrest early this year.

“We have made it very clear that the network had to be dismantled and it was. There are people who were connected with A.Q. Khan who are out of business or who were imprisoned. And there are ongoing efforts to continue to obtain useful information,” said Ms. Clinton. “We’ve seen the situation deteriorate over the last eight years in Pakistan. And even before, it’s been a very difficult country for us to get our arms around and figure out what our ongoing relationship would be like,” — PTI
