Australia for trade pact with India

SINGAPORE: Australia “wants to strengthen” its “under-done relationship” with India on the bilateral trade front. Trade Minister Simon Crean has said here trade ties were indeed “important”.

Mr. Crean, now here for a meeting of Trade Ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, told this correspondent that Canberra “will be seeking discussions with the Indian Government as to how that [under-done relationship] might be best progressed.”

Asked about the prospects of an Australia-India pact on economic partnership, Mr. Crean said he “will talk with Commerce Minister [Ananad Sharma] about how we take the bilateral relationship forward.”
