ANC in the lead

JOHANNESBURG: Jacob Zuma’s supporters danced and sang in the streets on Thursday as partial results from South Africa’s parliamentary elections showed him in line to become the country’s next President. Preliminary results from the 7.75 million ballots counted so far Thursday showed Mr. Zuma’s African National Congress party leading the vote with just over 66 per cent. A record 23 million South Africans registered to vote. A 77 per cent turnout has been recorded at polling stations where counting has finished. Final results are expected late Thursday or possibly Friday. — AP
