School annual day



Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal, celebrated its twenty-fifth annual day on January 24. Silver jubilee celebration programmes of the school were also launched on the occasion. Chairman of the school P.K. Shamsuddin inaugurated the function. The year-long silver jubilee celebration began with donation of 350 books and a financial assistance to the Janakiya Vayanasala, Thevakkal. The event was attended among others by patrons of the institution Justice V. Bhaskaran Nambiar and Joseph Thomas, IPS. The silver jubilee logo, designed by Madhavi Krishnan, student of Std XII, was also released on the occasion. V. Bhaskaran Nambiar and Joseph Thomas, IPS, patrons of the school, were also present at the function.



Cycle rally held



Highlighting the theme of ‘Go green for a cleaner India’, Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Chembumukku, took out a cycle rally recently. Fr Mathew Kallinkal, Director of the school, flagged off the rally at 8.45 a.m. Around 485 students, teachers and parents took part in the rally which began from the school premises to Alappuzha. On its way the rally team visited Our Lady of Mercy School, Aroor and Little Flower School, Kalavoor and conducted awareness programmes with supporting power point presentations and entertainment events. The rally was led by Jose Johnson, Amal Varghese, Ranjit Kumar and Babu John of the Sports Department. Fr. Sojan Maliekal, Assistant Director and Roy Kurisinkal, Manager, were also present. School Principal Helen Job welcomed the gathering. The programme was co-sponsored by Nucleus Builders.



Science exhibition



A three day CBSE regional science exhibition, hosted by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, got under way at the school premises on Thursday. K. Poulose Jacob, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology and Mahesh D. Dharmadhikari, Joint Secretary and Regional Officer, CBSE, Thiruvananthapuram Region, inaugurated the exhibition. Mr. Jacob, in his inaugural address, stressed the need for instilling a scientific temper in students along with moral righteousness and personal integrity. While delivering the presidential address, Mr. Dharmadhikari spoke at length about the reforms brought about by the CBSE aimed at enabling the holistic development of student brigade. School Principal Jaya Jacob addressed the gathering while Girija T.S. vice principal proposed the vote of thanks. E. Ramankutty, Director of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, and Meena Vishwanathan, Academic Consultant and Education Officer, Shikshan Bharathi, offered felicitations. Students from as many as 34 CBSE schools from across the State are participating in the event. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Science and Mathematics for a sustainable world’. Ten best entries will qualify for the national-level exhibition. The winners at the national level exhibition will have an opportunity to participate in the Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics and Environmental Exhibition for children organized by NCERT.

The winners will get a direct entry to the national fair organized by Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science.



Nalanda to celebrate annual day



Nalanda Public School, Thammanam, will celebrate its 23{+r}{+d}annual day on Friday. Benny Behanan, MLA, will inaugurate the function at the school premises at 5 p.m. Deputy Commissioner of Police R. Nishanthini, will be the guest of honour on the occasion. C.K. Bahuleyan, President of the school, will preside over the function. Students of the school will present various entertainment programmes as part of the celebrations.



Cleaning drive



Around 150 students of Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor, took out a cleaning drive at Marine Drive as part of their Clean Kochi initiative the other day.

The students, along with the members of Young India, also staged street plays highlighting the importance of keeping the environment clean. Students conducted street plays at various points on the stretch from Menaka Junction to High Court Junction.



Road safety week



Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, organised a series of programmes to observe the 26{+t}{+h}Road Safety Week recently. Students wrote essays and designed posters on the theme ‘Safety is not just slogan, it is a way of life’. On the concluding day of the programme, M. Mohanan, Sub Inspector of Traffic, Tripunithura, addressed the students and the drivers of private vehicles carrying students to the school, about the need to adhere to traffic safety norms.
