Basically acidic

Acid in food? Why not if they are beneficial?

An apple a day indeed keeps the doctor away. You all know that. But have you ever wondered why you feel so energetic after eating an apple? That is because it contains malic acid. Malic acid is known for its ability to increase tolerance to exercise and save you from fatigue.

Even something as heavenly as milk, contains acid. But this one doesn’t burn you down. Lactic acid found in milk is good for the skin. It can reduce the fine lines and wrinkles on your face and gradually diminish signs of aging, says research.

Acetic acid is a great disinfectant. You can also tackle household bacteria with it.

‘Acidic’ is probably not the word that springs to your mind when you eat a banana. But that’s what it contains. Your favourite banana, cranberry and apricot, contain tartaric acid which reduces heart ailments and lowers cholesterol.

Citric acid found in lime, orange and other citrus fruits is a weak acid that is also used as a preservative.
