‘ Grate’ Expectations!

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens

Of Dickens and his cheesy takes...

Charles Dickens loved cheese. Be it Great Expectations, David Copperfield or The Pickwick Papers, the famous Victorian-era novelist had a natural flair for weaving culinary references into his narratives. Cheese and cheese-related imagery recurs in his works. But let’s separate fiction from fact and see how cheese fares in the health department. We all know that cheese is high in calorie and that a big chunk of this ‘dairy love’ on a regular basis can add to our weight and lead to health issues. What about the humble cottage cheese that we love sprinkling on our dishes? Cottage cheese is said to have vitamin A and D, calcium and traces of other beneficial minerals. It also contains a good dose of casein, a slow-digesting protein, which is why it is preferred by body-builders, gym-hoppers and weightlifters. The fat content in cottage cheese is also said to be low.

How do you get a mouse to smile? Say cheese! How do you get the heart to smile? Say cottage cheese!
