THE PRIZE WINNERS, In the senior and junior category.

October 27 was a special day for the all the participants gathered at the Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram for The Hindu Young World Painting competition. Filling into the hall, as soon as the topics were announced, the children set to work, busily putting down the basic sketches before filling them with colour. The themes are always a surprise and this year too the subjects "A Rainy Day" for the juniors and "A traffic jam" for the seniors were announced on the spot.

Traffic jams obviously meant a predominance of cars, but it was the juniors who stole the show with their variety of rain scenes.

Bhuwaneswari, VIII, from Kendriya Vidyalaya, was a first time participant. She likes to draw and this time had drawn a traffic jam. What she liked best was the chance the experience gave her to interact with other children from different schools and make friends. Manju was excited because her picture of the traffic jam with an accident to complicate things further was a spur of the moment choice she was proud of.

Though Priyadarshini, VIII and Shamla, VIII of St. John's International were late thanks to a bus breakdown they didn't ask for extra time, handing in their unfinished and yet interesting work with brave smiles. K. Janarthan, VIII from S.R.N. Matriculation, who lost his hands and a leg in an accident, painted with his mouth. He had registered under the general category. Completing his work on time, he left as quietly as he had come.

The judges, Shalini Biswajit, Director, Forum Art Gallery and N. Srinivasan, artist, gave away the prizes. While Zeenath Sakir, VI A, from Gill Adarsh came first in the junior category, A. Harsha Iyer, IX A, from Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar, came up tops for the seniors.

Viveks the unlimited shop who supplied the cash prizes, Sabols drinking water, Sri Krishna Sweets, Aavin's flavoured milk and Cavin Care with gifts for all the participants were the sponsors for this special show.
