The Shiroor sisters, Geetarani (19), Smita (18), Suprita (14) of Sirsi are versatile young people who have won many prizes at the national, State, district and taluk levels as well as the "Balakalaratna" national level award from Bhratiya Manava Vikas Kendra, Hyderabad in 1999, 1996 and 1997 drawing competitions and have won bronze medals in the drawing competitions held by the "Young Indians Organisation" of Bombay in 1998-99.

In 1998 and 2002, Suprita Shiroor has won prizes at the State level drawing competitions held by The Hindu.

She also participated in the "Children's Literary Conference" in 2002. She stood first in the "Handicrafts, Pottery articles making Workshop" held at Bangalore under the "Rashtriya Bala Bhavan" in 2002. Smita Shiroor has won the State level "Kishore Prathibha Award" in 2002 held under the "Kannnada Culture Department" at Bangalore. Having won individual championship in Youth Festival 2002-03 conducted by the Karnataka University Dharwad and selected to Inter University Youth Festival held at Chennai.

She won the third prize in the eassay competition, held on the occasion of International Year of the Mountains-2002 Indian UNESCO Club, Byndore.

The Shiroor sisters are well versed in drawing, painting, eassay writing, handicrafts, cartoon drawing, oratory and music. They are the pride of the Sirsi town.
