Kayikotsav, an inter-school sports awareness and appreciation event, organised by the Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal, was inaugurated by Olympian Shiny Wilson and ace swimmer Wilson Cherian. Participants from 15 schools were present. There were workshops and seminars on the role of physical education in the overall development of children, on sports-related injuries and rehabilitation.

A quiz competition too was held. A demonstration of kabbadi, judo, karate, and aerobics followed. Star Watch was the most popular item. Participants met stars like Bimby, Mr India; Bentla D'Couth, the only woman FIFA referee from SAARC; Antony Jose, national shooting champion; Goris Paulose, archery champion and V. B Binish, the athlete. Ms Bentla said that one could become a great human being only when one learns to appreciate the good qualities of others. Mr Paulose pointed out that the concentration and skill he employed in archery helped him academically too.

The participants also met Joby Mathew, who excels in arms wrestling, swimming in the high seas and other sports, despite being orthopaedically challenged. Subhash. J Shenoy, well-known basketball player, inaugurated the new basketball court at Vidyodaya.
