The Giddha..

The Bhangra and the Giddha are social dances of Punjab. The Bhangra is mostly performed by men. It began as a harvest dance, performed during the Baisakhi festival when farmers celebrated a bountiful harvest by dancing in the fields dressed in colourful clothes and playing the dhol, chimta and other percussion instruments. The Giddha is a social dance for women, commonly performed at marriages. Like the Bhangra, it consists of vigorous steps. Grouped in a circle, the women sing songs that have social themes. Over the past few decades, the Bhangra was mixed with the Western styles like disco, hip hop, rap, reggae, techno and has become popular.
