Singing problems

Most people don't feel like talking when they wake up in the morning. Birds too don't do very well early in the morning.

Sbastien Dergnaucourt of the City University of New York and his team spent three years creating a PC program that could analyse all the sounds a bird makes for weeks at a time. Involving 40 birds, the researchers for the study collected 40 million musical fragments or syllables. When they judged 100 versions of each syllable from the evening with 100 counterparts from the next morning, the scientists found that the birds sang well in the evenings, but performed badly in the mornings.
