It's known as the city that never sleeps but it will be part of a "Lights Out New York" campaign in a bid to save migratory birds. The famous Manhattan skyline will stay dark after midnight during the fall and spring migratory season to help birds stay on track. Since 1997, more than 4000 birds have been killed or injured in collisions with skyscrapers. Civic officials said that lights of buildings above 40 floors would be turned off. A similar programme was tried successfully earlier in Chicago and Toronto.
