Fishy stamps

In order to manage the Antarctic ecosystem the British Antarctic Territory released a set of five stamps highlighting the fish and krill of the Southern Ocean. In 1980, the Antarctic Treaty for conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources was signed to conserve the population of all of the species in the Southern Ocean. The 25p stamp shows a Borch fish found mostly near or at the surface, usually near or under ice. The 80p shows a Bernach (also known as emerald notothen).

It was named after the Tasmanian physicist and meteorologist on the Southern Cross Expedition, Louis O. Bernacchi.
