Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura

This year is being celebrated the world over as World Physics Year, commemorating the 50th death anniversary of Albert Einstein and the centenary of the publication of his Theory of Relativity. Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, also did its bit to keep this spirit alive.

An educative lecture on `Our Universe' by Professor Rajendra Varma of the Physics department of Cochin College, a presentation by Std. VII students of the school on the characteristics of the planets, comets and asteroids, and a computer presentation on The Universe were some of the highpoints of the day-long celebration.

The students and teachers of the school had put up a huge model of a space shuttle and two astronauts anchored the programme titled "The Universe". A quiz competition on the subject was also held and prizes were given away to those who gave the right answers.

Prof. Varma, the chief guest for the day, exhorted the students to imbibe lessons from the universe, the movements of the planets to "discipline our lives." He asked the students to work hard and be inspired to contribute towards the progress of science. He urged them to become another Einstein, Curie or Newton.
