The view is of perennial budding flowers, fruiting trees, indoor plants, plantation crops and bonsais. This beautiful setting is the venue of the Nurserymen Cooperative Society in Lalbagh.

Around 300 nurserymen are members of the society. The society follows the twin objectives of getting a fair price to nurserymen and quality products for the customer at reasonable prices.

The place draws in customers by the droves. After all, you get everything you might possibly want for a garden — input seeds for flowers, vegetables, bulbs, organic manure, fertilizer, garden equipment, lawn mowers, sprinklers and pots.

The society nurses around two lakh plants, says M.K. Jayarame Gowda, Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka, Department of Horticulture. It customers range from landscapers, farmers to garden enthusiasts coming as far as from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Consultancy

Another popular service that the society offers is a garden-service consultation where an in-house horticulture consultant gives free guidance to the public about growing plants. The society also offers services for gardens, such as re-potting and minor landscaping. It has a unique mobile garden-care unit, explains Mr. Gowda, adding that the service is in huge demand.

Here you can pick up plants at prices as low as Rs. 5 for thulsi or splurge Rs. 3,000 on cycas (landscaping plants). The bonsais range from Rs. 300 to Rs. 15,000. Contact the Nurserymen Cooperative Society, Lalbagh, at 26576733.
